M.C. Escher’s ‘Curl Ups’ as seen by Tachi Tomohiro December 27th, 2006
pedalternorotandomovens centroculatus articulosus - the Curl Up - as folded by TACHI Tomohiro. It’s one of the best Escheresque renderings that I have seen to date. And they are so cute! (did I just say that?)
Here’s the Escher original:

Lunoid, a new origami design by Oschene December 20th, 2006
Philip (Oschene on Flickr) has created this wonderful 3D origami design, which he is calling a “Lunoid”. It’s really a fantastic-looking shape, which I absolutely must make out of plastic to use as a container for all sorts of impractical but fabulous goodies.
Three cheers to Philip for yet another killer design.
He hasn’t blogged about it yet, or posted a crease pattern, but I would keep an eye on origami.oschene.com to see if it shows up!
I’m personally looking forward to running the CP through our CraftROBO and cutting it out of polypropylene plastic, to make wonderful translucent containers…

Roundabout Tessellation by Christine Edison December 17th, 2006
A really stunning new piece from Christine Edison.
I’m really enjoying her work, she’s always coming up with something new and fearlessly exploring new ideas and territories.
The shadowfold pattern this design makes when backlit is marvelous.
Thought I’d share it with those of you who aren’t tuned in to her Flickr stream already.

Good Morning Amsterdam! December 13th, 2006
We arrived home safely last night, after an amazing 12 days in Europe. I’m still feeling pretty wonky from jet-lag, but I thought I’d upload some pictures from the trip. Some good, some boring, a lot of embarrassing shots, but life’s always a mix, right?
Huge pile of photos being uploaded to here. Or, if you have any sense, you will wait for me to pick out the few good ones, and put them somewhere else.
For origami people, I will be uploading a separate set with all the photos from the 2006 CDO convention in Verbania, which are most likely the only photos you will be interested in! You can find the set of origami convention photos here (although they will take a while to finish uploading.)
We had a wonderful time in Italy and the Netherlands. Other than my laptop being destroyed, it was all really great! A huge thanks to Patrizia Parigi for all the assistance she gave us in Firenze and in Verbania- there’s no way we can repay her for all her kindness, but we’ll try to think of something!

Amazing Kirigami December 1st, 2006
Check out the wonderful Kirigami made by my wife, Bekah. She just started doing this a few days ago! Absolutely amazing how quickly she picks up new crafts!
