Portland, Oregon sushi restaurant has origami tessellations? November 18th, 2006
I saw this story come up on my Technorati search feed on “origami tessellations”. How random is that? I’m guessing it’s tessellations of origami, and not the kind of tessellations that we do, but still it seemed interesting. I’ll have to try to remember to check this out if I’m ever in Portland!
Having enjoyed great success with its downtown location (406 SW 13th), Masu recently built a branch in Southeast. There, origami tessellations hang on the walls, and futons lay behind the chairs. At the gorgeous, wood-paneled sushi bar, the chefs move fluidly. Light glints off knives. Chopping sounds fill the air. The rich smell of the freshest fish available is everywhere.
Mmmm… Sushi!

One Year Anniversary - Flickr Origami Tessellation Group! June 12th, 2006
It’s been one year since the Origami Tessellations photo pool was created, and we’re nearing 1000 photos with close to 100 members- with over 20 members who have actively contributed material to the group!
This makes me really happy; when I started using Flickr a while back there really wasn’t origami tessellation content on here, and now there’s a healthy, growing community of friendly, fun people. This is all possible because of the positive, sharing spirit you have all shown to each other, and to new members joining in.
I’d like to thank you all for being a part of something wonderful, and I hope we continue to share, contribute, and grow for years to come!
Please feel free to comment on the discussion page on Flickr (or here, if you want!)

More than Just Origami (on MetaFilter) May 31st, 2006
More than Just Origami | MetaFilter
Got a great mention on Metafilter.com, one of my favorite websites. Also a host of other wonderful paper artists, some of whom I had never heard of before- but also of course the marvelous Richard Sweeney.
Unfortunately I don’t have an account, or I’d hop on and do some heavy name dropping- anyone with a MeFi account out there willing to give some plugs for the Flickr Origami Tessellations Group and for Joel Cooper?

Joel Cooper makes the Make: Magazine blog April 12th, 2006
Sweet- the Make: magazine blog picked up my link submission of Joel Cooper’s work. Thanks Natalie, for sharing this with everyone out there on the internet- getting some more exposure for Joel’s amazing art is only a good thing!

Thomas Hawk’s Top 10 Tips for Getting Attention on Flickr March 30th, 2006
Thomas Hawk has a great writeup on how to get more attention for your photos on Flickr.
I’m not suggesting you engage in a furious effort of self-promotion, but his suggestions for tagging, posting, and other things are really quite useful and relevant, no matter how esoteric the subject matter (like origami tessellations, for instance).
I think his suggestions about tagging are really the best, and most important- the more descriptive and useful tags your photos have, the more likely they are to be found. That can be either through flickr, through tag-browsing engines like Technorati or others, or through search engines like Google. It’s a positive thing all around. Good descriptive text and titles is also quite helpful, too.
Anyhow, here’s the link:

What do people search for? March 20th, 2006
I never fail to be amazed at some of the things that people look for, online.
I’m posting this because I’m a computer geek at heart, and I find such things interesting. It’s fascinating to see how many vague searches there are, as well as extremely precise ones. My fellow web users, you intrigue me!
Here’s all the Google, Yahoo, and MSN queries for the year to date:

patterned “spread” hex tile fold on Flickr, by Origomi
It was about one year ago today that I started putting photos on Flickr! Thanks so much to all of you who have made it the wonderful experience that it has been. I have met so many interesting and delightful people from all over the world in this last year. I feel very blessed.
Thank you!

:: ROGER KNOX FINE ART :: January 31st, 2006
Red Algorithm.
Sometimes you find the most interesting things via your referrer links- I found the artwork of Roger Knox, who has some very interesting abstract art!
I particularly like this one, as it reminds me of particle trails from a supercollider (physics: my first love!)
some very organic, chaotic, and unique works. Glad to stumble across your site this morning, Roger!
And of course he lives in the City by the Bay, the Jewel of the west coast- San Francisco. I need a good excuse to move there. I’m open for suggestions. anyone?

It’s fascinating what people pick up from the things you say… December 16th, 2005
Saw a blip in my technorati feed- which lead me to Thinking Machine, a blog about a lot of generally fascinating vague concepts that I find particularly interesting. but what really impressed me was that he picked up on the comment I left on the dataisnature.com site. Normally I feel like I can’t convey a single word in an understandable fashion, so it was really good to see that I got a message through despite my verbal fumblings.
Thanks, Warren!

interesting and odd japanese blog November 27th, 2005
did some searching on technorati for Yuko Nishimura and I found that future feeder posted a link! great to see the word being spread.
followed another link, and saw this blog which had not only a nishimura photo, but a photo from my flickr account! that was pretty pleasing to see, even if I can’t understand anything on the page.
It’s like a linkfest blog of cool and interesting things; reminds me a bit of the Akihabara watch blog. I like gadgets, so it’s now on my RSS “watchlist” !
