Tiled Hex Tessellation

Tiled Hexagon Tessellation

For my third diagram, I worked on this squashed twist fold by request. I’m quite happy with how this diagram turned out, and I think it’s the best one I’ve done so far. Please let me know what you think!

The crease pattern is relatively straightforward, although it’s a little different than “normal” crease patterns. I think there were too many creases to try and use the old style of dots / dots-and-dashes combination.

I fold this model using a square piece of paper; you’ll find instructions for making a pre-creased sheet of paper at the end of the document. You can either use the crease pattern attached or follow the instructions on how to do it all yourself from scratch. I suggest that after trying the example twist fold (the first crease pattern at the end) you try folding it all yourself. However it’s all up to you! I’ve included every option I could think of.

awesome diagram. it was my first tessellation besides a waterbomb “magic ball”. the directions were very clear and easy to follow using a pre creased sheet. I just read the “tesselation basics” and tried this as my first fold. after making a few single twists for practice I had an easy time putting it all together using your directions. as soon as I can get my hands on some bigger paper I plan on making a bigger one to hang in my window.
