Star by Shuzo Fujimoto February 16th, 2006
full Flickr photoset here: Star by Shuzo Fujimoto
I saw this crease pattern in Fujimoto’s 1976 book, “Twist Origami” (at least that’s where I think it was!)
I tried to recreate it as best I could- I can’t guarantee it’s 100% accurate, or even close, but it folds up properly into a logarithmic star pattern very similar to ones I have come up with recently. I saw his sketch and instantly recognized what it was- I have been trying to fold this pattern myself for quite a few months now, without any success.
It’s wonderful to know that someone solved this problem 30 years ago! It really makes me want to read his books; I hope someday they get translated and republished. I know that I’ll be one of the first to make a pre-order for several copies.
There’s a sectional portion of the crease pattern to download; I’d suggest using this as a trial fold, as it’s a little easier to manipulate. The second document is the full crease pattern, which should print out properly on US 8.5×11 sized paper, or most likely on A4 as well. (let me know if it doesn’t work for you, and I’ll make updates if needed.)

I have not licensed these under a CC license, as the design is not mine to license; I honestly don’t know what the legal status of this is. However, ethically I think what I’m doing is acceptable, so I’m going ahead with this- if you disagree I’m certainly open to talking about it, as I try to figure out how I can further people’s knowledge of Fujimoto’s amazing designs and brilliant work without stomping all over his rights.
UPDATE: sorry kids, no more diagrams. various people pointed out to me how wrong this is, in various levels of polite language. while I may not agree with some of you, I also have no interest in making you angry, so I’m removing them.

Hello best of Erics…
I bought your book lately and I am enjoying it so much its amazing…
Thank you for your creativity and insight.
Right now I stumbled upon this Fujimoto Star, I love it, I am trying with the information that is here. I even tried to draw a CP myself, but I am doing something wrong. Can you maybe help me by sending me your CP.
Thank you anyway.
